6. Introduced in DSM 7.2.2 and continued in DSM 7.3, media file processing for HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264), and VC-1 codecs is now handled by end devices to improve system efficiency. These codecs are widely supported on end devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs. If the end device does not support the required codecs, the use of media files may be limited. Refer to this article for workarounds. In addition, please note the following exceptions:
Surveillance Station on DSM will continue to support server-side processing of AVC (H.264) streams, see the release notes.
Deep Video Analytics (DVA) series models and VisualStation clients will retain support for AVC (H.264) and HEVC (H.265) codecs.

Compatibility & Installation

Added an option to postpone important DSM auto-updates for up to 28 days after the first notification.
Added support for Synology Tiering and Synology Tiering Vault.
Added native exFAT support for external devices, allowing seamless access without additional packages. The exFAT Access package has been discontinued.
Added support for backing up and restoring the "Verify server certificate" setting in LDAP directory service. Restoring this setting requires both the export and import systems to run DSM 7.3 or above.

Added support for sending OTP emergency recovery codes by email if users cannot receive their OTP during 2-factor authentication for OS login.

Ik heb eerst 10 packages geüpdatet (mijn gewoonte) en daarna DSM.
Je moet eerst akkoord gaan met:


Verder is de update vloeiend verlopen, heb alleen niet de tijd opgenomen maar, dat is voor ieder anders, mede afhankelijk van het updaten van geïnstalleerde packages.

Ja, het betreft dan ook NASsen die gewoon te zwak zijn of redelijk oud, met in het achterhoofd, dat deze update niet alleen DSM is.

Want waarom kan je dan upgraden maar wordt de upgrade niet aangeboden?

Dan kom je niet in de verleiding om te updaten maar, je kunt dus wel kiezen om toch te updaten.

Ofwel ondersteunen de modellen de nieuwe versie 100% en wordt dit automatisch aangeboden.
Ofwel ondersteunen ze dat niet en kan je niet upgraden.

Wat is dan wijsheid..... Mijn DS918+ en DS218+ wel of niet updaten?
De DS220j die ik ook heb is voor mij ook even een vraagteken.

Wow zelfs de 18 en 19 modellen zijn nu de echt de sjaak...  Voorheen hield synology wat de oudere modellen wat langer in leven qua updates. Mijn DS415+ heeft ruim 8 ofzo? jaar updates gehad.

Zoals Danny schreef (In zijn weer gewiste bericht?) zijn de 3th-party drives ook weer te gebruiken op de meeste nas modellen (link). Als ik de link zo bekijk zijn dat de J en de DS+ series. Bij de meest luxe modellen blijven de synology schijven verplicht.

Ik zie nu dat er ook lijsten zijn van disks die expliciet incompatibel zijn. Die schijven blijven, terecht, verboden.

Ik heb een DS116, een DS416, een DS218+, een DS918+ en een DS723+ alle probleemloos geupgrade naar DSM 7.3.

Nieuw in deze release is onder andere "Synology Tiering " (in Beta beschikbaar.) . Meer informatie is te vinden op :
https://www.synology.com/nl-nl/DSM73 . Als ook komen er rond december nog meer nieuwe features beschikbaar. Meer Enterprise gericht.

Verder bevat deze een minder gedocumenteerde aanpassing maar voor velen hobbyisten denk ik wel interessant, third party drives zijn met deze update weer te gebruiken :https://kb.synology.com/en-global/DSM/tutorial/Drive_compatibility_policies . Al is het advies voor productie toch wel de Synology NAS disken te gebruiken, voor een betere support en stabiliteit van het systeem.

Wel liep ik tijdens installatie tegen een voor mij nieuw venster aan met de vraag of je enkel belangrijke updates automatisch wilt installeren of ook de laatste. Nu ken ik deze optie wel, maar zie ik nergens meer een mogelijkheid om automatische updates uit te schakelen ? Heeft iemand dat al kunnen vinden ? Ik wil niet dat mijn I-Scsi san (draait ook op mijn productie Synology) in ene wegvalt omdat er een update wordt doorgevoerd ...

Goede opmerking. Enkel op de + modellen weer teruggedraaid, al had je deze specifieke lock volgens mij nog niet op de hogere modellen, dat je met third party disk geheel geen installatie kon doen (was het geval op x25 + series). Hebben ze ook met de rs2421+ series geprobeerd meen ik me te herinneren, dat je enkel met Synology hdd's een opslagpool kon aanmaken. Maar is toen teruggedraaid omdat de markt er nog niet klaar voor was vermoed ik.

Ik zie nu overigens dat third party drives op de + series ook gewoon nog health monitoring hebben. Iets wat je op de + racks vorige jaren "geblokkeerd" zag. Je kreeg een melding in HDD status -> unverified. Weet even niet of dat nog steeds is op bijv. rs2423+ e.d. .

Ik moet er weer een avondje voor gaan inplannen vrees ik, aantal websites draaien nog op een oudere php versie die niet meer ondersteund gaat zijn native Denk dat ik een docker container moet gaan inzetten met een oudere PHP engine ..

Het antwoord van Synology omtrent mijn vraag waarom de versie niet automatisch wordt aangeboden op sommige NAS.

As some company production relies on their NAS, updating day 1 is usually not a good practice
